Tanglewood has been in the same building on Bering Drive for 17 years, and in some form or another, we've been part of Houston for 66 years. That history is worth protecting. It's also part of why we outgrew our old layout.
Dentistry moved faster than most people realize. We mill and print our own crowns and veneers in-house now, on-site, rather than sending them out to a lab. Better for patients: fewer visits, no weeks in a temporary. But it also meant more equipment, more space, and a layout built for a different era of dentistry than the one we were practicing in.
So we expanded. Same building, more room.
What's different now
Three things drove it: room for our growing team (Dr. Korloo has been a great addition), room for the technology behind same-day dentistry, and a more comfortable space for patients while that technology does its work.
That last one mattered more than we expected going in. If your crown is being milled in-house, there's a wait while it runs. We wanted that wait to feel like a nice hotel lobby, not a waiting room against a wall, and that's what we built. Private consultation rooms are part of the new layout too, for patients working through larger treatment plans or who'd rather talk somewhere quieter than an open bay of chairs.
What building a dental office actually involves
People are usually surprised how much this resembled building a restaurant. Plumbing, suction, electrical, all of it had to be run before a single chair went in. We cored through the concrete floor for that plumbing, and since we're on the eighth floor, we had to work around structural beams we couldn't drill into. We'd planned for that possibility from the start, so when it came up, we adjusted rather than stalled.
What hasn't changed
Same team. Same building. Same care. If you've been to Tanglewood before, the visit still feels like Tanglewood. There's just more room to do it in.
Our expanded office gives us more room for in-house milling and 3D printing, private consultation spaces for bigger treatment conversations, and a waiting area that feels less like a waiting room.
