Gum disease doesn't hurt. That's the problem.

It progresses quietly. By the time most patients notice something is wrong, significant damage has already been done. We catch it early and tell you exactly what's driving it.

Where you are determines what we do.

Gum disease progresses in stages. The earlier we find it, the simpler the path back.

Stage 1

Gingivitis

Inflammation of the gum tissue. Bleeding when you brush or floss. No bone loss yet. Fully reversible with a professional cleaning and improved home care.

Stage 2

Mild periodontitis

Bacteria have moved below the gum line. Early bone loss present. Pockets measuring 4-5mm. Requires a deep cleaning and a maintenance schedule to stabilize.

Stage 3

Moderate periodontitis

Deeper pockets, 5-7mm. Measurable bone loss. Tissue beginning to recede. Deep cleaning plus close monitoring every three months.

Stage 4

Severe periodontitis

Significant bone loss. Pockets 7mm or deeper. Tooth mobility possible. Requires immediate intervention and long-term maintenance to prevent tooth loss.

What we actually do, in order.

No guesswork. No surprises. You know what's happening and why before we start.

01

Full periodontal assessment

We measure every pocket, take intraoral photos, review your X-rays through Pearl AI, and go over your medical history. We want the full picture before we say anything about treatment.

02

Root cause identification

Medications, hormonal shifts, high-inflammatory diet, dry mouth, airway issues, grinding. We identify what's driving the disease, not just how advanced it is. That changes the plan.

03

Scaling and root planing (deep cleaning)

We go below the gum line with local anesthetic and remove the bacteria, tartar, and embedded deposits a routine cleaning can't reach. We work one section of the mouth at a time. You're comfortable throughout.

04

Re-evaluation

Six to eight weeks after the deep cleaning, we re-measure your pockets and assess tissue response. This tells us whether the treatment worked and what your maintenance schedule needs to look like.

05

Periodontal maintenance

Once you've had a deep cleaning, you're on a maintenance schedule. We see you every three months, clean below the gum line, re-chart your pockets, and track your progress visit over visit.

Every three months.
Not every six.

After a deep cleaning, gum disease bacteria rebuild to problematic levels in about 90 days. Six-month intervals aren't enough to stay ahead of it. Three months is the schedule. That's not arbitrary; it's what the research supports.

At every maintenance visit we clean below the gum line, re-measure your pockets, take photos, and compare them to your baseline. Improvement is documented. If something is trending the wrong way, we catch it before it becomes a bigger procedure.

Questions we actually get, answered without the runaround.

Does a deep cleaning hurt?

We numb the area before we start. Most patients are comfortable throughout. Some tenderness in the days after is normal and settles quickly.

Can gum disease be cured?

Gingivitis is fully reversible. Periodontitis can't be cured, but it can be stabilized and managed long-term with the right maintenance schedule and home care.

My gums don't hurt. Do I really need treatment?

Yes. Gum disease is almost always painless until it's advanced. Pain is not a reliable indicator of what's happening below the gum line.

Why every three months and not every six?

Bacteria rebuild to damaging levels in about 90 days in a mouth with a history of gum disease. Six months gives the disease time to re-establish. Three months stays ahead of it.
